Retrospect
Society for Assistance to Hearing Impaired
Children(SAHIC) started some 14 years ago
with a modest center namely "National Center
for Hearing and Speech for Children (NCHSC)
for early detection of hearing impairment
children by the dedicated efforts of Prof.
M.Nurul Amin, a Professor of ENT, who worked
in the apex medical colleges of Bangladesh
for a long period.

Short history of SAHIC
Society for Assistance to
Hearing Impaired Children (SAHIC) is a voluntary
non-government organization established in
February 1987 for prevention, early detection
and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired,
specially children in Bangladesh . Registered
with the Department of Social Services and
NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of the People's
Republic of Bangladesh in 1989 and 1990 respectively
to receive national and foreign donations.
SAHIC is the brain child of Prof M. Nurul
Amin, DLO; FRCSS, FCPS an eminent ENT specialist
of the country and established the society
with likeminded dedicated friends and social
workers with only five thousand taka capital
as personal contribnution of him in 1987.
The aims and objectives of the society was
to prevent an early detect hearing impairment,
to treat the diseases that may cause hearing
impaiorment and rehabilitation of hearing
impaired, specially children. The idea was
concieved from personal experience as a practicing
ENT specialist seeing the problem of hearing
impairment amongst the population, specially
children, leading many of them to live a disabled
life. It was concieved with the UNO declaration
and WHO resolution passed in the General Assembly
of 1986 about the hearing disability and identification
of ear infection as the major cause of hearing
impairment ( about 65% of the total hearing
impairment / deafness) which are preventable
and avoidable.
Due to extra ordinary contribution in the
development of ENT departments and advancement
of ear nose and throat speciality in Bangladesh,
He earned the good will and confidence of
the people both at home and abroad, specially
the executives of the Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare which helped the Society to
get a plot of land in the Health Complex of
Mohakhali , Dhaka as donation by the Ministry.
